Stability and Precision, Which is More Important in Choosing Resistors?

Precision resistors means resistance value tolerance, TCR, distributed parameters(distributed capacitors and distributed inductors) such indexes reach a certain standard.

What kind of resistors are precision resistors?
Precision resistors are related to high precision resistors. Precision stands for correctness of resistance value, actually the correctness is effected by many elements, such as change of environment temperature, heat of resistors when current is switched on, pressure or pull force from PCB, moisture of environment, corrosive gas, soldering, pulse, overload, static, radiation, etc. All the elements will make resistance value changing, that is to say, it will impact precision of resistance value. Then what kind of resistors are precision resistors? The answer is resistors with stability and precision.

Why stability is more important than precision?
Resistance value is impacted by different elements, high precision without stability is meaningless. Take an example, the accuracy when resistors out of factory is ±0.01%, we pay for this accuracy, after in stock for a few months or load for hundreds of load, the resistance value will exceed ±300ppm even more. Another situation is that IQC check the accuracy is correct, but when soldered into PCB, the precision exceeds the range of precision. In addition, moisture and static will effect resistance value. Stability is more important than precision in reality.
